Australia's Overweight and Obesity Issue

Overweight and obesity issues are taking their toll on Australia's health.

60 per cent of Australian men and 50 per cent of women are overweight and about 20 per cent of Australian adults are classified as obese. This puts them into the high risk category for heart disease, diabetes and other serious ailments.

The Australian Food and Grocery Council, representing the country's food manufacturers, is responding positively to these critical community issues.

Maine Street Marketing has helped the Council with an industry strategy that focuses on better nutrition and health outcomes for Australians. Our work included identifying key stakeholders, analysing media coverage on obesity issues and talking with member companies, government agencies, community groups and health authorities.

As part of the Council team, Maine Street Marketing contributed to communications materials and set up industry information sessions in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney. Parliamentary staffs, government officials, retailers and community, academic and medical groups came away from these briefings more informed about how national food manufacturers are working with others to meet this national challenge
